The latest EverWeb release is all about making working with the product even easier than ever. The new UI features introduced in EverWeb 4.2 help you access features at your fingertips rather than having to mouse around the User Interface (UI). This means that you can work a bit faster, a bit smarter and with the possibility of reducing the potential for Repetitive Strain Injury that mouse and keyboard worker’s often suffer from!
EverWeb’s NEW UI Features
EverWeb 4.2’s new User Interface features can be broken down in to three areas:
- New quick access to a widget’s Widget Settings
- New UI Tools for Responsive Pages and
- New UI Tools for the Responsive Row Widget
New Settings Cog For Widgets
All of EverWeb’s widgets gain a settings cog in the top left hand corner of the object. Click on this icon to quickly access all of the widget’s Widget Settings without having to mouse over to the Inspector Window. This should make it quicker and easier to adjust a widget’s settings and make further adjustments if required.
Move Responsive Objects Up and Down More Easily
The second new UI feature is a simple addition, but the new up/down arrows that appear when you use full width objects in responsive pages, make it easier to move the selected object up and down the page than having to manually drag the object up and down the page.
Responsive Row Gets Additional Enhancements
The last area where the new UI features have impact is with the Responsive Row widget. This widget is only used in Responsive pages. In EverWeb 4.2 the widget includes all of the above mentioned new features. In addition there are some other new features which we will describe below.
The first thing you’ll notice is that a colored bar now stretches across the top of the widget itself creating a toolbar of options. If you have used the Responsive Row widget prior to EverWeb 4.2 you’ll already know that you can name each Responsive Row using the Widget Settings. Before Everweb 4.2, this name was displayed in the top left hand side of the widget. In EverWeb 4.2 the name has now moved to the top center of the widget’s toolbar. The visual appearance of the new Responsive Row Toolbar should also make it easier for you to identify the currently selected Responsive Row.
In addition to the Settings Cog and the Up/Down arrows, the Responsive Row’s toolbar includes a Trashcan icon. When you click on this icon, it will immediately delete the Responsive Row widget. If you do this by mistake, use Command+Z on a Mac, or Control+Z in Windows, to undo the action. Using the Trashcan may be a quicker, easier and more accurate way for you to delete Responsive Rows from your page rather than selecting the Responsive Row then hitting the delete key.
On the right hand side of the Responsive Row toolbar is a three horizontal line icon. You’ve probably seen this type of icon in other apps and it’s used in the same way in EverWeb, that is, to move the widget up and down the page. Simply click and hold on the icon then move the Responsive Row to where you want it located. Alternatively, you can also click and hold the mouse down on any clear part of the Responsive Row toolbar, then drag the Responsive Row to where you want it located.
Turning Off The New UI Features
Whilst the new User Interface features will help you to work faster, there may be times when you do not want them displayed. You can turn off this feature by clicking on the Window-> Show/Hide Layout menu option. When you choose Hide, the new UI features will become invisible, except for the currently selected object where the icons will remain visible.
