Whenever there’s a big release of EverWeb, it’s always the big new or updated features that capture the headlines. But there are also many smaller quality of life features that are added or improved upon that help make EverWeb even easier and more fun to use. In this post, we’re going to take a look at all those little features that you may have missed in the latest EverWeb 4.4 release!
macOS 26 Tahoe Compliant
For EverWeb’s macOS users, you’ll be pleased to know that EverWeb 4.4 is macOS 26 Tahoe compliant.
Renaming Website Projects From The Projects Windows
When you log in to EverWeb, you can now change the name of any website project file that’s listed in the Projects Window list. Simply click on the ellipsis (the three dots) in the circle on a Mac, or the Down Arrow in Windows, to the right of the project name that you want to rename. A list of menu options will appear, the first one being ‘Rename Website’. Click on this and you can now edit the name of the existing website. Once you have finished, press Enter to complete the operation.
This way of changing the name of your project file joins the following existing ways:
- From within the project itself, click on the File menu option, then use the Rename Website option. This will highlight the name of the site at the top of the Web Page List. Edit or enter a new name, then press Enter to finish.
- Again, from within the project itself, double click on the name of the Project in the Web Page List. Enter the new name that you want, then press Enter to finish.
New Websites Get Numbered!
If you want to create more than one project file in EverWeb, that’s easy to do either from the Proejcts Window, or from within EverWeb. Prior to EverWeb 4.4, the name of the new site would always be ‘New Website’. If you’re working with a number of project files and don’t rename them from the default, you would get a lot of ‘New Website’ projects in your Projects List. In EverWeb 4.4 whenever you create a new project file, it will add a sequential number at the end of the ‘New Website’ naming convention e.g. ‘New Website 12’. Obviously we recommend renaming your project file if you’re going to be keeping it. See the previous parargraph on how to rename a project file.
Some Important Under The Hood Improvements
Whilst there are major features to enjoy in EverWeb 4.4, ‘Under The Hood’ there have also been a couple of major updates. The first is that the EverWeb website framework has been updated and re-written to help your websites load faster and more efficiently. As part of this update, all shape objects and borders now use CSS instead of images.
The second ‘Under The Hood’ update applies to publishing your website where caching has been improved upon publishing your site. In effect, this means that your image files should now appear more reliably after your website’s published so there should be no browser caching issues.
Improved Context Sensitive Toolbars
Something that you see but don’t see as a new feature is that all objects are named and get their own Toolbars, as required, when selected. As the Toolbars are context sensitive, the amount of features you’ll see will vary on how the object selected is being used. The Object Toolbars have also been redesigned since EverWeb 4.3 and continue the refinement of them since EverWeb 4.0. They are now more visible in relation to the object itself and the page in general.
Password Toggling In The Contact Form Advanced Widget
There’s a new ‘Password’ button that’s been added to the Contact Form Advanced widget’s SMTP Settings section. You can now toggle the password to be shown or hidden.
Drag and Drop Video Fill
A nice little bonus feature here… when using Video Fill in the Shape Options tab as your Fill type, you can now drag and drop the video you want to include directly in to the Editor Window. When you do this, the Video Fill section in the Shape Options tab will update with details of the video you just added. You can then apply other Video Fill settings as you want.
Header Validation Check
Sometimes you may need to add code in your site by request from third parties (e.g. when using fonts) or you know how to code and want to add it to all of the pages in your site. You usually add code to all of your pages using the Header section of the Site publishing Settings page of your project file. In EverWeb 4.4 a new Validate button has been added here so that you can check to make sure that your code is correct before you publish your site. A simple but handy feature that could save you a lot of time and effort.
Image Shadows
The last feature of note is the introduction of Image Shadows in EverWeb 4.4. This new feature will be looked at in detail in a future blog that will be All About Shadows in EverWeb.
EverWeb 4.4’s been big on big new features but also big on the small ones too! What would you like to see in a future update for EverWeb on either macOS or Windows?
