Welcome to the first AAI blog of 2025! Happy New Year to all of our readers! We’re going to start the new year with a look back at the best of EverWeb in 2024! As usual, it was a busy year for the macOS and Windows products.
EverWeb Product Updates in 2024
First of all, EverWeb released three major ‘point’ releases in 2024:
- EverWeb 4,1 was released in January 2024
- EverWeb 4.2 debuted in June 2024
- EverWeb 4.2.1 followed as a maintenance and support release in July
- EverWeb 4.3 rounded out the year in late December 2024
Our Top 10 EverWeb Features Introduced in 2024
Here are our top 10 features that came to EverWeb in 2024! Some are big feature adds, some small but important ones!
- Do Not Publish Page: First on our list, Do no Publish is like setting your page in to draft so that it doesn’t get published until you want it to be! It’s easy to use as well, just right click on the page you want not to be published in the Web Page List, then select ‘Do Not Publish’ from the menu options list. The only page you can’t apply ‘Do Not Publish’ to is the very first page in your project as this is the Home page of your project.
- Lazy Loading Images: When checked, this feature loads the image on the page only when it is actually needed. This can be of great benefit to a page’s loading time as images do not all have to be loaded at the time of the initial page load.Lazy Loading is applied on an image by image basis. Just select the image you want on the page, then go to the Shape Options tab and check the ‘Lazy Load Image’ option.
- Drag and Drop Pages Between Projects: Another one of our wishes fulfilled in 2024! Simply open the two project files that you want to copy pages between, then drag the page you want from the Web Page List of one of the projects on to the Web Page List of the other project. In a couple of seconds the copy will be completed.
- Copying Objects Between Project Files: Similar to copying pages, you can also copy objects directly from one project to another. Just select the object you want to copy, e.g. a FlexBox widget, copy it to the clipboard, then paste it in to the page of the other project. Done!
- Justify Text Anywhere! Whilst EverWeb allowed you to justify text in a Blog post or in many of its widgets using the Styled Text Editor, one place where it didn’t allow this was in TextBoxes. Well, problem solved in EverWeb 4.3 when this feature was added to the Text Inspector!
- New Page and Browser Background Settings: Lots of new options were introduced including horizontal and vertical tiling for page backgrounds plus the new Video Background for the Browser Background. Both Page and Browser Backgrounds now also allow for fixed position image backgrounds.
- New Map Fill and Video Fill Shape Options: You can now add Map and Video Fills to shape objects so there’s less reliance on having to use widgets to achieve what you want. This is especially true of the Map Fill option that is far superior, in our opinion, to the built in Google Maps widget.Shape Options
Map Fill lets you add more features to your maps than the widget can provide. - In Situ Widget Settings: When you click a widget in EverWeb you will now see the Settings Cog appear in the widget’s top left hand corner. Clicking on this will immediately show you the Widget’s Widget Settings so you no longer need mouse over to the Widget Settings in the Inspector Window. This should save you time and also your wrists!
- More Responsive Row tweaks! As well as gaining an in situ Setting Cog, the Responsive Row widget also gained a Toolbar making it easier to move the Responsive Row up and down the page as you may want. You can also directly delete a Responsive Row using the Trash can icon. You can still use the Delete key but the new option makes it clear as to what you are deleting. Sometimes it’s easy to delete an object within the Responsive Row rather than the Responsive Row itself.
- Scrollable Text Comes To TextBoxes! New in EverWeb 4.3 comes the ability to have scrollable text within a TextBox. Simply add the text you want to a TextBox, then reduce the size of the TextBox so that some of the text is not visible. Next go to the Text Inspector Window an check the ‘Scrollable Text’ option in the Export Options section. When you preview or publish your site, you’ll have a scrollable TextBox on your page!
So, this is our top 10 pick for standout features for EverWeb in 2024! And we didn’t even get around to mentioning the new PayPal Modern widget! For a more complete list of the features that came to EverWeb in 2024, check out the links above.
